Whatever you're comfortable with and whatever resources you have :) . CakePHP runs anywhere you have Apache, which is just about anywhere and everywhere.

There is no "correct" way of developing apps in CakePHP (like any framework), just the one that suits your style, needs and the requirements of the project that you're working on.
